Atlantic Librarians

This network is for Atlantic Librarians, defined in its broadest sense. How broadly? Well, if you live in, want to live in, once lived in, or have friends who live in Atlantic Canada and you play or work in a library then you qualify.

Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki

Welcome to Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki. This wiki was created to be a one-stop shop for great ideas and information for all types of librarians. All over the world, librarians are developing successful programs and doing innovative things with technology that no one outside of their library knows about. There are lots of great blogs out there sharing information about the profession, but there is no one place where all of this information is collected and organized. That's what we're trying to do.

In the Library with the Lead Pipe

In the Library with the Lead Pipe is intended to help improve our communities, our libraries, and our professional organizations. Our goal is to explore new ideas and start conversations; to document our concerns and argue for solutions. Each article is peer-reviewed by at least one external and one internal reviewer.

Friending Libraries: Why libraries can become nodes in people’s social networks

Lee discussed Pew Internet's latest findings and why they suggest that libraries can play a role in people’s social networks in the future. He described the reasons that people rely more and more on their social networks as they share ideas, learn, solve problems, and seek social support. And he explored how libraries can act as "nodes" in people’s networks.

Future Development for the Network

One thing that Ning lets you do is add RSS feeds to your network. Currently, I have added two: 1) Library Journal news and 2) Del.icio.us bookmarks for the "Library 2.0" tag.

While the former is probably familiar to most of you, the latter may not be. Basically, del.icio.us is a social bookmarking tool where people can share bookmarks publically and/or read the book marks of other people who have chosen to share their bookmarks.

People can also "tag" a bookmark with a name fami… Continue

New Look!

Thanks to Donna Bourne-Tyson, we have a new look. A nice foggy picture of Hubbards, NS is a great way to add an east coast flavour to the site. Thanks Donna!

That said, I don't want to be accused of being "Nova-centric." So, if you got a good picture you want to share, let me know and I'll create a banner out of it for a while. Or if you don't want me doing a hack job of your photo, why not just add it to your "photos" and share it to the front page.

I see that people have alre… Continue
